Viewing tower in Bukowiec

The viewing tower here is part of the park and palace complex at Bukowiec, and is one of the specially-built ‘artificial’ ruins of the castle known as Kasselburg or Warte.

This castle was intended to lend variety to one of Prussia’s most important landscape park complexes, established by Count von Reden, owner of the palace at Bukowiec. It was written about by such as Theodor Korner: “Where art becomes nature, life blossoms in its most beautiful form.”

The tower constitutes a wonderful point affording views over the Rudawy Janowickie and Giant Mountains.
Today the building has been restored, thanks to a number of devoted people, and visitors can safely enjoy the views from the very top, just as the aristocracy used to do here in Reden’s magical park.
